Artist’s Statement:

Mirage, Lake Grace sky Driving in salt lake country with the windows down. The flickering illusion of water on the road; a shimmering mirage, elusive and compelling. I want to get to it but know it will disappear before I arrive. It?s also a trick and a deceit, and I?m reminded – in painting- of putting one colour alongside it?s opposite to make their common edge ?vibrate?. This painting has been inspired by reconnecting with my childhood home- Lake Grace, and I wanted to reconstruct the feeling of driving though that landscape again for the first time at sunset.
