Artist’s Statement:

This work reflects upon my childhood experiences on a farm in the Great Southern where, every spring, we would immerse ourselves inside an adjacent Karri forest, looking for an elusive pink/white waxflower called Crowea. I have never left these encounters with that particular landscape behind. As Merleau-Ponty said, ?through interaction with landscape, both inner and outer landscapes are formed and cannot be separated?. Memories of outdoor play and engagement with nature involving freedom, untrammelled movement, joy and wonder give our consciousness its concrete contents, and are vital to a healthy relationship between interior and exterior worlds.
