Artist’s Statement:

The imposing mass of Billy Goat Hill captured my attention travelling from Alice Springs airport to the town of Alice being such a contrast to Perth. Walking from Alice to Aralluen Art Centre it dominated the landscape. I was thrilled to discover it is a registered sacred site known as ?Akyulerre? to the Arrernte people. There are dreaming associations of this place and of Anzac Hill. The name ?Billygoat Hill? reflects the early use of the area by the townspeope to graze goats. I felt a connection to the hill?s strong presence and stories and a need to pay homage to this hill that captivated my heart.
