Artist’s Statement:

On a cold evening, I pulled into a petrol station off Manning Road. Perhaps it was the eyesore fluorescent lighting or the puddles on the concrete floor despite the absence of any recent rain, but this place had a dreamlike quality. Now, years later, nothing is the same. Not the building itself, which has been torn down. Not the petrol prices and not me, a stranger to who I was back then. It is nature to evolve, but every now and then it’s important to reflect on what used to be. Even if all you do is mourn for premium unleaded petrol selling for 167.9 cents per litre.
