Artist’s Statement:
Rivers are life. Elegant, beautiful and strong, the Maali / Black Swan is a spiritual and cultural icon of our ancient river place and a symbol for Western Australia. In 1697 Willem de Vlamingh sailed along the Derbarl Yerrigan marvelling at the spectacular park like Whadjuk estate that brimmed with wildlife. Black Swans were so numerous he named it Swaanerivier or Swan River.
