Pigs In Schools
The Pigs in Schools competition is back, bringing together students from Agricultural Colleges across Western Australia for an exciting hands-on challenge—raising pigs for a full school term. This rare opportunity to work with pigs in WA makes this program especially valuable for the next generation of farmers.
The Pigs in Schools program is a vital initiative in attracting and nurturing talent within WA’s agricultural sector. Students in Years 10-12 will manage a diverse mix of Large White, Landrace, Berkshire, and Duroc pigs. They’ll hone their skills in pig husbandry while navigating biosecurity challenges unique to the industry. This experience gives them a competitive edge, complementing the more traditional sheep and cattle management practices in WA.
At the Perth Royal Show, the students’ hard work will be showcased as their pigs are judged both “on hoof” and “on hook.” But this competition isn’t just about winning—it’s about connecting with industry experts, gaining valuable insights, and building networks that will benefit their agricultural careers.
Stay tuned for competition details for 2025!
