The Goats Competition is a highlight for anyone interested in dairy and fibre animals.
Visitors can see nine recognised dairy breeds — Anglo Nubian, Australian Melaan, Australian Brown, Australian Alpine, British Alpine, LaMancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Saanen and Toggenburg — judged for quality, temperament and productivity.
What you’ll see:
- Handler Classes for children and juniors showing their skills with goats.
- Kid Parade with classes for young does and bucks, culminating in the Supreme Champion Kid.
- Dairy Goat Judging across junior and senior champions, with production and best udder awards.
- Special Awards including Most Successful Exhibitor and Herdsman Award for Best Kept Pens.
- Mohair Fleece Judging — showcasing WA-grown fleece across fine kid, strong kid, young goat and hand-spinning classes.
Dates and times:
- Wednesday 1 October 2025 – Delivery of exhibits
- Thursday 2 October 2025 – Handler Classes, Kid Parade, Junior Champions, Mohair Fleece judging
- Friday 3 October 2025 – Best Presented Goat, Senior Dairy Doe judging, Type & Production tests, Senior Champions, Special Classes
- Saturday 4 October 2025, 10am–6pm
Location: Sheep Pavilion, Claremont Showground
The Goats & Mohair Fleeces Competition is open to registered breeders and fleece producers, with classes designed to reward excellence in breeding, milk production, presentation and fibre quality.
Key dates:
- Entries open: Friday 13 June 2025, 5.00pm
- Entries close: Sunday 17 August 2025, 5.00pm
- Mohair Fleece deliveries: By Friday 23 August 2025, 5.00pm
- Goat arrivals: Tuesday 30 September (6–8pm) or Wednesday 1 October (6–9am)
- Departures: Saturday 4 October (after 6pm)
Entry fees:
- Dairy Goat Classes: $14.95 (Non-Member) / $13.45 (RASWA Member)
- Mohair Fleece Classes: $10.15 / $9.15
Special awards:
- Supreme Senior Champion Dairy Doe – Perpetual Trophy + $50, sponsored by Dairy Goat Society of WA
- Supreme Champion Kid – Trophy sponsored by Dandalee Park Stud & Indigo Stud, voucher from Thompson & Redwood
- Most Successful Mohair Fleece Exhibitor – $200 + Perpetual Trophy, sponsored by SRS Genetics Angora Goats
- Governor’s Cup points available for eligible single-pen classes
