Perth Royal Show and Perth Royal Food Awards COVID-19 Update
June 24 2020
The Royal Agricultural Society of WA has today at its June 24 Council meeting approved to work
with the State Government of Western Australia to consider the possibility of staging the 2020
Perth Royal Show in September/October this year.
“A lot has changed since Monday June 22 when the Premier announced the state was moving to
Stage 4 of its Coronavirus recovery plan and further easing possibly by July 18. This now
provides RASWA and the Perth Royal Show a real chance to be staged and we will work with
Government to explore all possibilities.” said Peter Cooper RASWA CEO. “With only 3 months
until the originally proposed first day of the 2020 Perth Royal Show, there are many key
stakeholders and aspects of staging the Show that need to be considered and it would be remiss
of us not to thoroughly review these key factors.”
An event the size and magnitude of the Perth Royal Show takes much planning and organisation,
and RASWA needs to be certain it can be staged before any agreement to proceed is made.
“We will work with the State Government and see if we can deliver the Show to the standard we
would like and then if we believe this is possible we will make an announcement, possibly in the
next week” said Mr Cooper.
Mr Paul Carter President of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA further stated that “ The RASWA
Council held out for as long as possible to give the 2020 Perth Royal Show every chance to be
staged and now we have the opportunity to work with the State Government of WA to see if this is
possible.” “Recent easing of COVID-19 restrictions gives us every possibility and we will work
together to see if we can make this happen for the Western Australian community” added Mr
“RASWA is an extremely proud not for profit organisation, that since 1831 has represented the
values and spirit of the farming and agricultural community. We have brought the country to the
city and educated families, students, young adults and people of all ages about agriculture, and
celebrated the amazing produce Western Australia and Western Australian farmers deliver year in
year out” concluded Mr Carter.
